21/02/2011 - What do you make of Jesus?

“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’” (Matthew 16: 15).

The world’s opinion on Jesus differs a lot; yet, they’re worth nothing.
The day someone finds out who exactly our Master is, they give their heart to Him, and they begin preaching their discovery to everybody. That also happened to Saul of Tarsus who soon afterwards became the apostle Paul (Acts 9). That also happened to me though I was only six then; as I was converted to Christ I promptly began telling everyone what the Nazarene had done to me.

And what about you? Who do you say the Lord Jesus is? Is He a good man, a revolutionary or the Son of the Most High, the Saviour of mankind? The latter is one of His titles, actually. Those who don’t recognize Him as the Son of God don’t believe in His divine Person, therefore, they don’t believe in the work the Scriptures state He did in favour of everybody. Those who know Him as the Son of God but not as the Savior of mankind don’t believe in Him as they should. We’d be all lost without Jesus and the work He did on the Calvary.

This is not just theory; that should be experienced by everybody. Only those who were born again know the value of having Him as their Saviour. Everyone that says they’ve gone through the new birth but doesn’t tell anybody about it – they don’t evangelise or do their best to assist those who are spreading the Good News – needs to ask themselves whether they’re really saved. It’s impossible for someone who knows the divine love not to have the desire of letting everyone know it as well.

You must know Christ not only as Your Saviour and Lord but also as the One who heals. He bore the wounds in His body so all of our diseases and illnesses were put in it and for us to be healed by His stripes (Isaiah 53: 4, 5). The main reason why someone should seek healing mustn’t be only to get rid of pain or discomfort but to recognize that He was replacing man at His death. So, the best way to thank the Son of God is to seek healing.

It’s not wrong to see the doctor and take medicines he prescribes. It’s imprudent though not to seek God for your healing. Those who forget the benefits granted by the Lord are stating, in other words, that they don’t believe in Him. Jesus also took on Himself the punishment that brings us peace and so we don’t need to suffer from anything now. Misery or lack of food, shortage of anything, an unhappy marriage, a problematic family, unfulfilled career, as well as all other issues – they all must stay in the past. After all, we can do anything in The One who strengthens us (Philippians 4: 13).

Who do you think Jesus is? The same other people say He is, both the saved ones and the lost? Have you already met Him? Can you say Christ’s your Saviour as well? Don’t waste time! Get to know the One who’s the only Door to the Heavens or else you’ll stay outside!

In Him, with love,

R. R. Soares
