I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban.

Job 29:14

It took sometime for Job to find out what caused the devil to gain permission to attack him. At first, that servant of God couldn’t figure out why such a thing was happening in his life. He even thought that the misfortune was a product of divine work. Only those who get truly close to the Lord can understand the reason why such things happen to them. Without the light of the Most High we won’t be able to see what’s behind all situations and why they take place.

Just like anybody else Job tried to justify himself. Apparently, there was no explanation for what befell him. The same applies to our lives but if we seek God He’ll surely show it to us. Some situations will only be revealed to us on the Judgment Day. Yet, the truth is that a curse without a cause is never fulfilled. As for Job, he feared the possibility of God failing to protect him and for that very reason the devil obtained permission.

Job did what was right: he covered himself up with righteousness. If you do the same but yield to any temptation – even if it’s just a simple fear that one day you might be attacked, the evil dart will certainly find an open door. See if, by any reason, you have had any filthy thought or allowed any forbidden desire to give you any pleasure! That’ll make room for the enemy to get into your life.

That man of God stated that the righteousness served him as a robe. Those who are clothed with the divine righteousness will never go unprotected. Yet, I insist on saying that if you harbor any temptation in your heart, even if it’s the fear that something evil might happen to you, you’ll be paving the way for the devil to get in. The only way for you to keep on being sheltered is to take possession of everything the Word of God says.

We don’t have to do more than what’s revealed by the Lord. Being a zealot and going to any length in order to be acknowledged by men won’t take you anywhere, and neither will it keep you from the hellish onslaughts. Albeit your justice is like a robe and turban, you’ll be kept from stumbling if you respect wholeheartedly what is revealed to you.

Job let fear get into his heart and because of that he ended up suffering. What kind of feelings have you harbored in your heart? Watch out! If the door is open the devil may enter. We don’t know for how long Job feared; perhaps since the beginning of his success and, who knows, that might even have caused him to turn to God. The right thing to do is not to trifle with temptations. In case you’re being tempted by something forbidden by the Word, get rid of that immediately!

See if the devil has found any room to get into your life, but don’t consider yourself a weak person to whom bad things happen. Talk to the Lord in prayer right now, confess your error and don’t accept anything that comes from hell. You can rest assured that if you resist the devil or his temptations he’ll certainly flee from you (James 4:7). This is assured in the Word for all children of God. Now, do take possession of such promise and see if that’s what you’ve been lacking!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
