A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, And a cover from the tempest, As rivers of water in a dry place, As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. Isaiah 32:2

Seven hundred years before the birth of the Son of God, the prophet had foreseen this event, saying: Behold, a king will reign in righteousness (Isaiah 32:1). Ever since the fall of Adam, humanity was oppressed by the kingdom of darkness, suffering all sorts of humiliation and evil.  However, it had been prophesied that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15).  This was done when Jesus died on the cross.  Today He reigns with the same righteousness used to overcome the devil.

Isaiah tells us that the princes, sons of the great King, should rule in righteousness.  Shortly before going to the cross, Christ declared that the judgment of the world had arrived (John 12:31), which happened soon after His death.  It was the greatest judgment trial in History, for all our infirmities and pains, transgressions and iniquities and the punishment that brought us peace were placed on the Savior (Isaiah 53:5).  Then, He descended into Hell to defeat the devil and divest him of the power that he had over us.

The prophet, speaking through the Holy Spirit said that the King would govern with righteousness and be like a shelter from the wind.  There are various translation for spirits and one of them pictures them as wind. In our King we have a protected hiding place in order not to be found by the evil spirits.  Without this protection we too would be attacked and oppressed by them, but in Christ we are safe and can rest.

Besides being delivered from the traps of the spirits from hell we also have in the King a refuge against the storms – natural accidents of nature.  Now all that He is for us must be held in faith and claimed because evil has not been removed from circulation.  This way, the devil and his messengers will tempt us, as they did Jesus.  They are the cause of all evil.  However, we are delivered and free!

We have no reports of Jesus having suffered physical pains, although the prophet did say that the Messiah was a man o pains (Isaiah 53). I also believe that Christ never was ill, unless with our own infirmities when He took our place.  The pains which Isaiah refers to must have been those He underwent during his ministry, because although Jesus wanted to redeem and save Israel, His authorities did not believe in Him.  The Son of God could have done all that they needed, but in Nazareth skepticism and doubt prevented Him from action!

The metaphors that Isaiah used show us that Jesus was and is the Savior that guards us from the devil’s attacks and from natural accidents.  Nevertheless, as we know, it is necessary to apply our faith for Him to operate.  Although He is everything, we learn in the Bible that the majority of people do not understand that they should always be at the feet of the Master to live all that He is.  This is the reason for many Christians to have various problems.

The prophet reveals further more concerning our King, comparing Him to streams of water in the deserts. Many people are useless and worthless until they receive the Water of Life.  He is also like the shadow of a large Rock in a thirsting land. We have and we can all things in Him.  Halleluiah!

In Christ, with Love,

Father! You are not resting but working up to now and ruling over all things.  You gave Your Son the power over Heaven and Earth because He defeated the enemy. Now, we must only believe in You.

We have been losing for not living the reality of the New Testament! All was made new but we did not understand that only in Your Name will we rule according to the righteous worked by You at Your death.  Help us to examine the Scriptures to honor You.

You are our safe haven against the powers of darkness, the Refuge against the storm.  You are to us as rivers of water in dry places of our lives and like the shadow of a great Rock in a weary land.  You are more than we think or imagine!
