Her uncleanness is in her skirts; she did not consider her destiny; therefore her collapse was awesome; she had no comforter. “O Lord, behold my affliction, for the enemy is exalted!”
Lamentations 1.9
The Lord has clothed us with the garments of salvation (Isaiah 61.10). When we wear them, we cover our nudity and become beautiful; but when we sin, we taint our garments and they become unclean. In the spiritual world, God’s angels and demons see that our garments are tainted. And when that happens, our ordaining is no longer honored and the demons no longer obey us, because we have lost our power over them.
It all started when Jerusalem turned away from the Lord. God sent his prophets to warn them that the end was coming but, since there was prosperity and an apparent peace, people did not listen to those warnings. Today our world lives an age of prosperity and many people are under the impression that it will last forever, thus ignoring the warning of imminent danger.
Similarly to people in Jerusalem, many of us are ignoring God’s warnings. If we continue doing this, we will fall into the hands of the enemy. When we least expect, the end will come. Those who will leave this world without salvation can imagine what awaits them in eternity. That is why the Church needs to endeavor its best efforts to urge these people to repent and be delivered from eternal condemnation. If we act in accordance with God’s orientations, we will save many lives.
The Spirit of God shall not strive with man forever (Genesis 6.3). When someone’s heart is closed to the Lord, he abandons the person in error. How sad it will be if God withdraws his Spirit from you! Today the Lord is our comforter, acting exactly as Jesus did during his earthly ministry. He who listens to God’s Word will see that his hands will help him rise up and will produce a lot of fruits throughout eternity.
The prophet Jeremiah was troubled because he knew the fate of his people during those seventy years in captivity (Jeremiah 25.11) — so many lives would be lost, so much suffering the holy people would experience! Therefore, he pleaded to God for his affliction to be seen. When we feel a direction to pray for God’s works, or for his people, we must take this very seriously. Since the prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5.16), we will be able to change many lives.
Jeremiah saw the enemy being exalted. Because we have the Holy Spirit, when we feel that someone is about to undergo an affliction or when we realize that the devil is about to destroy a family, region or nation, we must call upon the Lord. Satan will always have to lose and those who love God must always prosper and be happy.
The cure of our generation is in our hands, brethren. Actually, the Lord does not like to send anyone to hell. He does not want anyone to be forever doomed. Then why shouldn’t you cooperate with him and help save some people, delivering them from the eternal fire?
