…In those days when King Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the citadel.
Esther 1:2
There are monarchs who rule over nations and others who were made kings to our God (Revelation 1:6), but all of them are authorities of the Creator. However, those who do not have the fear of the Lord are oftentimes carried away by temptations. The sad thing is when it happens to those who were made kings to our Lord. The work of the new birth, in which we are remade in Christ, has our election as one of its purposes.
The important thing is to observe when the king sits on his throne, because from there something good or bad will come out. On that day Ahasuerus had planned a big party to show all his grandeur, so he sat down to show the whole period of splendor his kingdom was going through. In our case, when we sit in our position we are able to dispel with a mere look all evil sent to attack us or aimed at our loved ones.
As to the earthly kings, it is of lesser importance whether the monarch’s decision is favorable to us or not because the Lord works in any situation. We do not have to make agreements with the enemy or fear his onslaught. We need to look at what the Word declares to be our position, trust the One who never fails and who does not take back what He says – Jesus – and rebuke the forces of evil in His name (Mark 16:17), believing that they will beat a retreat.
The events that followed were directed by the Lord for the good of His people. The same happens today, so never panic if something does not happen according to your wish. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom in order to take advantage of the unfavorable moment and come out victorious. Everything that is done against us will be reversed if only we let the Spirit of God direct us.
The Lord is the true Sovereign of the entire universe and He rules over all things. There is nothing outside His control. He reigns over everything and everyone, so all you have to do is to take possession of what He says in His Word in order for God’s work to be done. As a king or a queen raised up by Jesus to reign for and to the Lord, never forget the noble mission you were given, and when you feel a boost from the Father, use your royal prerogatives.
Esther was raised to help her people – the Jews – escape the condemnation that would come to wipe them off from the earth. You shall be raised too but you must believe that God raised you to be His sovereign in this generation. So do not be fooled by the evil one for he will use many people to weaken you. Be strong and persevere to the end.
