Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob!” And he said, “Here I am.” So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

Genesis 46: 2, 3

Intense and lasting was the pain Jacob felt as he was given the fake news that his son Joseph had been killed by a beast. Likewise, Joseph also went through a great deal of suffering with the betrayal of his brothers; the lie told by Potiphar’s wife and the forgetfulness of Pharaoh’s chief butler. Couldn’t God have given a dream to Jacob indicating that Joseph was in Egypt so he would have been able to look to him there or couldn’t He have set him free from the prison?

As for Joseph the Almighty went speechless from the moment he disappeared up to the point when Jacob was told that his son was alive in Egypt. Why did The Most High do that? We have no clue on that at all, but He kept safe and sound both Jacob and Joseph. We must not urge The Lord to take any action unless it is related to those deeds promised by Him in His Word. What was declared in The Holy Book belongs to us; yet, at the right time, what has not been told to us yet will be revealed by God Himself.

Even being servants of The Lord, we find it hard to understand the reason why we are, very often, mugged and betrayed, and also the fact that our Heavenly Father does not reveal anything to us. But it is very likely that we may have done something that might have prevented Him from operating on our behalf; after all, He does answer our prayers whenever we are fulfilling His commandments.

As Jacob received the good news that his son was alive he decided to set off on a journey towards him. That was when The Lord cheered him up in a dream. Why did The Most High take to action only at that particular time? I’m afraid I have no words to explain that. I wish many mysteries could have been unveiled to me; yet, God has His reasons to do that that way. We will not be able to find all the answers for many questions in this life. Yet, we will get them in the eternity. Although, at this point, we do not know what makes our Father operate that way, it does not mean that my love towards Him is lessened. On the contrary, each day I want to live more in His presence and do His will. I will be happy enough to get the help I need from Him to accomplish what has been revealed to me as His plan for my life.

The right thing to do is trust in His promises on your behalf considering that, this way, you will have all of His assistance. For the divine operations to be unlimited you must not let anything get in their way. Even when someone does to you something cowardly and hurts your feelings a lot, and then you feel the weight of betrayal upon your shoulders you must not stop believing in God for He has promised that He will never forsake you (Jeremiah 1: 5).

You must never fail to trust in The Most High for one day, He will certainly show you the reason of all things. Do not keep crying on account of past events, but stand up and continue doing the divine will. God will make of you a happy person in all senses. It is only up to you to decide that nothing will ever drive you away from The Best Path ever: That of faith!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
