Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.

Psalm 146:3

We, the princes of God – men who have always been raised by Him and placed in the work of God according to His will – have the obligation to be holy, separated from sin, consecrated to the Lord. We represent the power from on High and to this end we were inducted into the holy ministry of the Word. Therefore, as authorities, we need to assert our rights as well as the rights of people. We have the key to the Kingdom of Heaven to lead the Church of Jesus into occupying the place determined by the Almighty for her with the assurance that the gates of hell shall not hinder our progress.

Besides, as princes of God, we must be careful not to let power go to our head and discriminate against or harm someone. There are people who despite not serving the Almighty are endowed with good character. Yet, we should not trust in them or in the ones sent by the Father. The Lord himself warns us about it (Jeremiah 17:5) because, unfortunately, oftentimes we give too much importance and place too much trust in someone who stands out in any area and then we end up imitating their ways.

Even those who stand out – whether in secular activities or in the Church – and thus are idolized by many cannot be a reference in our worship of God because there is no salvation in them (Acts 4:10-12). Therefore, putting them in the limelight of God’s service or using their names and deeds in the pulpit or when giving a testimony are wrong things to do. After all, that which is born of flesh is flesh (John 3:6), which, according to Jesus, profits nothing (John 6:63)! Therefore, they did nothing more than the obligation incumbent on each one of them. On the other hand, he who does nothing is found wanting!

The eternal salvation or deliverance from the onslaughts of the evil one is in Christ Jesus. If we give any human being the place that is due to the Holy Word, we are robbing the lost ones of the opportunity of addressing the Lord and making amends with Him. The eternal destiny of many may be compromised by the fact that man insists on not glorifying the Father. Let God be true but every man a liar. (Romans 3:4).

My brethren, a simple but crucial thing to do is not to overlook your salvation or trade it for anything. Do not accept anything Satan offers you, even if he uses the most alluring person or makes the most attractive financial offer. You must always perceive the devil as a crook who wants to cheat you.

God will hold each one of us accountable for what we do with the salvation that cost the life of His only Son. The parable of the virgins explains it very well: the foolish were running out of oil in their lamps and when the bridegroom came they did not participate in the marriage feast (Matthew 25:1-13). So if you find yourself in this situation, go now to the Lord and confess your sins before it is too late!

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
