12/08/2013 - WHY DO YOU SIN?

You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 4.2

In accordance with the Bible, whoever is born of God does not sin (1John 5.18). The Most High planned that we would never dishonor his good Name which is called upon us, and fall into sin. Nevertheless, because we do not heed to the Scriptures, which contain eternal life, and testify about us, we are not fulfilling our duty. Due to that, the enemy has been successful in keeping the people of God far from the Father’s presence.

Never (not even to deliver a person from a situation of mortal danger) add anything to the Word of God. If you need to fast, do it with your head lifted up, because your strength will always be superior to any temptations you may endure and the Lord will always provide you a way out. Those who add anything to God’s revelation fall into the hands of the devil, who knows no compassion or mercy, since his objectives are to kill, steal and destroy (John 10.10).

Usually, those who are new to God’s family undergo a specific type of temptation: to diminish their obedience to God’s commandments or ignore many prohibitions. For a long time, such people served the enemy and, now they believe they will not be able to walk in righteousness, obtain success or solution for their problems if they do not change parts of the Words they consider too strict. They are wrong! And that is why their faith is weak.

He who adds or removes anything from the Word of God is unable to keep God’s commandments – thus committing sins of commission and omission. Those who act like that may even declare that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them (Philippians 4.13), but they will remain weak; they say they are strong, but nothing happens. In this verse of Deuteronomy, however, the Lord teaches us the right way to overcome.

It is so sad to see Christians deceived by the devil, stumbling in faith, controlled by vices and evil practices! There are people who have never felt the presence of God, but, if the Lord visits them, they believe God has already forgiven them, so evil continues to dwell in their hearts. It is true that God is faithful to forgive us (1John 1.9), but our desire not to commit that sin anymore, our confession of our sins and our determination to resist the devil’s temptations must be genuine.

Jesus asked John the Baptist to be baptized by him, so that all righteousness would be fulfilled (Matthew 3.13-15). Christians need the baptism of repentance, holiness and transformation. If they remain silently in sin, they will continue being a slave to the evil spirit that led them into error.

Wake up! You have been redeemed, so make things right with the Lord today!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
