Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
Amos 3.3
How sad it is to see multitudes crowding churches that called themselves Christian without the presence of the Lord! Fake religiosity has nothing to do with God and is more harmful than false religions. Many people think they are serving God because they sing beautiful hymns, recite meaningless prayers and do things that man has created to draw closer to the Lord. Well, those who act in this manner will continue separate from the Lord!
In this passage, Amos speaks about what was going to happen to those who had abused God’s patience. He describes the people and talks about the tragedy that awaited them until he gets to Judah and Israel—the Kingdom of the North. This prophecy was fulfilled in their lives and today serves as a warning to all those who have not made the decision to serve the Lord and obey his Word. You can rest assured: Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Galatians 6.7b).
God instructs us to walk together with him, so that he can use us in his great works, and he is truly glorified. However, to walk with him is more than merely a decision of the heart. You can only walk with God if you are in agreement with him and obey his orders. Therefore, we need to learn about God’s commandments and keep them. Those who truly act in this manner will walk together with the Almighty God.
What do you do when you are anxious? Do you pray? That is what the Lord told us to do. How about when you feel joyful, do you sing? When you are sick, do you ask a man of God to pray for you and anoint you with oil? When the spirit of temptation approaches you, what thoughts go through your head? If you give an opportunity to the devil, you are abandoning the presence of God, and then you start walking alone. Without mutual agreement, you will walk further and further from your Father.
Jesus commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16.15). Now think about this: what do you spend your money on? It is right to spend it on bread—necessary things—but it is also right to fund the work of God. Some Christians choose their bill of lowest value to bring to church in their wallets, because, in case the Lord convinces them to give a good offering and they do not resist, they will not have the money anyway.
Try to walk with the Most High. It is not difficult! It will not be long before you tell others that, if you had to pay for such benefit, you would be happy to. This privilege belongs to all those who are saved. When you keep God’s commandments, you will see your life transformed to the point that not even you will believe. In addition, your family and society will benefit from your faith. God wants you to walk together with him, as a friend and as a disciple.
