For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror.

James 1.23

Those who do not practice what they learn from the Scriptures, nor take possession of what is revealed to them, are preventing their light from shining. Our Heavenly Father, in his wisdom, reveals who we are in the spiritual world when we hear his Word, which is like a mirror that shows how God sees us.

Do not believe in the picture the devil has painted of you. Put your spiritual appearance before you and do not believe in any other image. Never forget how you felt when you learned something new from the Word, because this is your true image. Believe in what the Lord says, and you will act like Jesus and do the same things he did during his ministry on Earth.

You will only be able to carry out or receive something the Bible says about you when you start believing in it. It is not enough to have a sudden desire to make your will prevail. As the water cannot rise above its level, you cannot do anything beyond what the Lord has revealed to you. And that also holds true for the potential that God’s revelation says you have.

Do not get involved in foolish conversations about worldly pleasures. And when a problem arises, do not despair and start asking everyone to pray for you. If you do not take hold of what has been revealed to you, it will become a false speech, which deceives and corrupts.

The same way as a mirror shows your natural face, the Word of God reveals the way he sees you. If you take possession of what the Most High says, you will feel exactly how you felt when you first heard the gospel. Remember: it is impossible to gather figs from thorns or grapes from a bramble bush (Luke 6.44); so let the Lord make of you a tree that bears fruit in accordance with the good seed that was planted in you.

Do not postpone taking possession of what has been revealed to you, because it might be too late. Life is short, and if you do not take hold of what is revealed to you, you will fail to bear fruit and to live the plan God has for your life. What good will it be  if you come to your senses when the opportunity has already passed? You were chosen to carry out the will of God right now!

To lose your natural face is to lose direction. When God shows you what you can have or do, he is telling you everything you need to have access to what the Lord has in store for you. God’s part ends with his revelation. Your part is to act on His plan for your life.
