So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! (1 Corinthians 10:12).
This biblical passage begins with a warning over temptation: the stronger we feel we are, more alert we must be so that we don’t fall. The Bible teaches us that pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18).
So then, what is the secret to overcome temptation? The verses below reveal that the answer is vigilance, prayer and active dependence on the Holy Spirit:
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41).
Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Luke 22:46).
…then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. (2 Peter 2:9).
May we find strength in the Lord to overcome all temptations when they come.
