In Psalm 142:7a, the Word of God declares: Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise your name. When a person’s a soul is imprisoned, he or she doesn’t have a positive outlook on the situation because they are in great anguish and despair.
See what happened to Hagar (Genesis 21:15-16; 19-21). She was in the desert with her son when the water ran out. Then she got desperate. Her soul was imprisoned by fear, and she thought she would die. So she gave up her son and abandoned him.
Desperation leads people to make terrible decisions. Hagar was sure about death, so she gave up fighting. Her soul was imprisoned, but God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water in front of her. That well was already there; however, she could not see it because she was blind.
Hagar did not die in the desert and neither did her son. He grew up, married and died at an old age. My brother and my sister, God has a way out. Seek Him, and He will open your eyes.
