10/30/2013 - History repeats itself
Pr. Glauber Morare
It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea. 46 “So you remained in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you spent there. (Deuteronomy 1:2, 46).
From the minute God speaks to our hearts (Horeb) up until the fulfillment of the promise (Canaan), there is a time when we must act (Kadesh Barnea).
The passage above says that the Lord showed the people that they would be free and possess a fertile and prosperous land, and they got motivated. They began to walk, they arrived at the city of Kadesh-Barnea (at the border of the Promised Land), viewed the promise but due to lack of action they remained there for 38 years and died without the taste of victory.
What happened to God’s people in the past repeats itself today. We hear messages that motivate us to be happy in love and succeed professionally. We are encouraged and eager to move forward. However, we fail to act. We should not take long at Kadesh-Barnea. Rather, it is necessary to act with faith and perseverance so that we can replicate today our ancestors’ history of success.
