08/24/2012 - The voice of conscience
Pr. Glauber Morare
When I was on my way to a crusade in Orlando, Florida (USA), a brother who accompanied me said: “This road is a straight one! It seems to have no end. Can’t we speed up a bit to see if we get there faster? “
Those who like to drive may find it monotonous to travel through a straight and long road so they are tempted to speed up; they want to test their skills in sharp bends. Likewise, the devil tries to convince us that the simple life that the Lord gives us is dull and he goes to any length to cause us to transgress by indulging in the pleasures of the world.
We must be attentive to what God said to Joshua, “Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7b). If we hear God’s voice, we’ll see that the journey will go by quickly and we won’t be disqualified. That’s what happened with the brother I mentioned. When we reached our destination, after a three-hour trip he said, “Wow! We’ve had a nice trip, and I’m not even tired. ”
