In Judges 6:8, God shows us the fundamental requirements for a full-fledged faith: to be dependent, to be free and to be willing.
God had said that with the victory of the people of Israel they would think they won because of their own strength and abilities. But in Psalm 20:7 we see that what He wanted them to show was dependence only on the Lord.
Then God told the fearful and fainthearted to return. In fact, anyone who displays these traits of character is controlled by Satan (Revelation 21:8). In order for us to act by faith, we must rid ourselves of fear and lack of boldness.
Finally, God told Gideon to separate the men who drank water in a special and unconventional way, so 300 was the number of men who drank without putting their hand to their mouth. They were willing to do what God had put in their heart without minding what others might think.
When the dependence on God is linked to a free life and there is willingness in our hearts, then we are ready to act in faith and face any situation. With these requirements met, we put faith into action and win any battle for the glory of God.
