Faith does not have material guarantees; for faith is the certainty of the things we wait for and the evidence of things we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1). Unfortunately, many Christians are deceived because they consult people who have no obedience or respect for the Word, and receive guidance that does not come from God’s mouth.

In 1 Samuel 28, we are shown the danger of consulting someone who is not a man of God. Saul was distant from the presence of God because of his disobedience, and when he needed to hear His voice he received no answer.

“And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets” (verse 6).

At the peak of despair, impelled by necessity, he searched for other answers.

“…In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor….So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes and he went together with two men; and they came to the woman by night.” I Psalm 28. 7, 8

With this attitude, Saul was obviously fooled! So we who belong to Jesus have to try and listen to God’s voice, which comes to us through the Word. When you go to church or when you listen to a preacher imparting his message you should pay very close attention! For God speaks to us through the Word!

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers and by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son…. (Hebrews 1:1, 2).

The Bible says “You search the Scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life….” Avoid consulting others that do not speak the Word of God; in this way you will avoid being deceived by the evil one.
