02/27/2014 - Temptation wants to overtake you

Christian Life

Every temptation is active. It doesn’t shy away from people; on the contrary, it wants to overtake them. However, the Word declares: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (I Corinthians 10:13).

The word “overtaken” used by the Apostle Paul in the verse above conveys the idea of something that comes upon suddenly and unexpectedly, as an enemy. The text teaches us that temptation comes, attacks, ensnares and pressures people until they sin. Temptation has a very important trace: persistence. You may have noticed that a temptation persists until you give in, then it ceases to exist.

Again I repeat that all temptation comes before sin. If you defeat it, you won’t sin. I sincerely hope that I have helped you.
