12/02/2013 - Be Careful with the Yeast

Christian Life

Jesus said to His disciples, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees” (Mat 16:6). When He said that, the disciples didn’t understand it and they thought to themselves that they should stop buying bread or other kinds of food sold by the Pharisees! But Jesus was talking about the ways of the Pharisees, and not about food. We must understand the following: when you have yeast in old dough and then that old dough is added to fresh dough, the fresh dough will become completely fermented in a short period of time.

The Bible tells us that if we are in Christ, we are new creatures (new dough). That means we can’t allow the old yeast to come back into our hearts. There are a lot of godly people that don’t realize what the enemy is doing in their lives. The Devil takes advantage of them because they don’t have any knowledge of the Word. He puts the yeast of malice, jealousy, bitterness, animosity, adultery, and of sinful thoughts into their hearts.

Unfortunately, that makes them lose their communion with God and all the blessings that they have a right to as children of God. This passage warns us to get rid of all the old yeast (to forget the past) and to become new dough, in order to celebrate, not with the yeast of iniquity, but with unleavened sincerity.

“We must serve God in spirit in truth.”
