If you truly love the Lord more than your bed, get up just a little earlier and spend the first moments of your day with the Lord
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. (Pr 8:17)
Christians should wake up early. The Bible has various examples of people who woke up early and got their victory. Some people can’t get up early for medical reasons, and this should be an exception.
In the Old Testament we have a divine order that the people get up early, so that they might collect the bread the Lord had given them before the sun came up (Ex 16:14-21). The choice the people had was this: if they wanted to eat God’s bread, they had to get up early. When the sun came up, it would all melt away and disappear.
Today is no different, if we want to receive a nutritious spiritual diet, have communion, and be provided for spiritually, we have to get up early! In Moses’s time, the divine order was: those who arrive too late won’t be able to eat enough to make it through the day.
In Pr 26:14 we read:
As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed.
This is to say that laziness in bed is just like a door swinging around on its hinges, stuck in its frame. A lazy person rolls around in bed from one side to the other, and can’t manage to get up, saying:
“Just five more minutes…” then five more… and five more, until 15 minutes or more has passed, and they didn’t even notice! And then there’s the person who says “Well, I’m already late, whatever… nobody’s perfect… I’ll just take it easy today, tomorrow’s the day I’ll start my new life.”
…but that person didn’t even notice what he or she was missing. Many people just can’t seem to get away from their beds. They toss and turn from side to side, they love it. We need to spend the best hours of our day with the Lord, not doing something else. Some Christians spend their whole day on other things, and only kneel down to pray and read the Bible at night, when they are nearly exhausted.
Think about this, and you will be happier!
