Most certainly you have heard about the power of words. In several books of the Bible we have a variety of advice about this topic.
In the Book of Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Before this statement it is very clear that we are responsible for our success or failure, but unfortunately many Christians are not aware of this truth, for they are saying things that they would never wish for in their lives. In this study I hope to show you how the children of God are losing out by not recognizing the scriptures. Matthew 22:29 – “Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. One of the messages that I most like to preach about is the importance of our words in relation to the circumstances, for by them we will be justified or condemned. Matthew 12:37 – “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
The Apostle James was incisive about this matter. Let’s see: James 1:19 – “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”
Before this advice from the apostle, it is explicit that we should pay more attention to the words that come out of our mouths, and that we should contain our emotions and our moments of impulse. But I believe that this verse is being read backwards in the lives of many Christians. It is being read like this: “every man be swift to wrath, swift to speak and slow to hear”. Mercy! But it is the truth.
Let’s comprehend our position in Christ. The Bible says that the word of the King has power. (Ecclesiastes 8.4 – “Where the word of a king is, there is power; and who may say to him, “What are you doing?”).
In the Book of Revelation there is a statement of what we really are before God. Read it with me: Revelations 1.6 – “and has made us kingsand priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen!” Only what we read in the first part is enough: we were made kings and priests! So then my brother! In the position of a priest, we have free access to the presence of God by Jesus’ blood, and in the quality of a king we have the power of authority. When we read in the book of Ecclesiastes that the king’s word has power, this truth applies to our lives. Once we have obtained this spiritual condition, we must stay alert because the devil will try to make us trip up on some words. We were put in a position of honor, we are in authority, and we must know the spiritual laws. Otherwise, we will be similar to the beasts that perish.
Psalms 49.20 – “A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.” Before these truths, we still have to remember that when you speak something wrongly it is as if you were signing a blank check Afterwards, the enemy will be able to fill it out putting whatever he wants on it, as you have already given him your approval. And yet making another observation, it is good to understand that, “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” James 3.10
I would like for you to read the prior verses with a lot of attention and verify if you have exercised this control over your words, for if you haven’t, you will never be able to seize God’s plan for our lives here on earth.
