12/05/2013 - Temptation is most dangerous when you think you will not fall for it

Christian Life

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! (1 Corinthians 10:12).

This biblical passage begins with a warning over temptation: the stronger we feel we are, more alert we must be so that we don’t fall. The Bible teaches us that pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18).

So then, what is the secret to overcome temptation? The verses below reveal that the answer is vigilance, prayer and active dependence on the Holy Spirit:

  • “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41).

  • Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Luke 22:46).

  • …then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. (2 Peter 2:9).

May we find strength in the Lord to overcome all temptations when they come.
