Many people can’t win in life for the simple reason that they delay and postpone important decisions that could change the course of their lives. The habit of delaying decisions is one of the most common and damaging things, and its hold over success and happiness is tormenting.
“Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” Benjamin Franklin
Although they stand before this wise advice, many people live the opposite as if the phrase were written backwards… “Don’t do today what can be left for tomorrow.” But for many people tomorrow never comes. Success in your spiritual or professional life and the habit of postponing things are completely incompatible!
Now let’s examine some biblical advice:
Deuteronomy 28:1 If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.
From this text we understand that we should obey and keep to the commandments ordered by the Lord, that is, in the moment that the word is revealed in our hearts.
Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
If we compare the life of many people with the teachings of Jesus, we shall see that a lot of success is not achieved simply by the fact that important decisions were delayed. These can be decisions like: forgive the offender, live a life of prayer, enroll in a professional course, complete your higher studies, do a Post-Graduate Course, a Doctorate, look for a new job, or even embrace the ministry when called upon.
James 4:13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”
James 4:14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
This is a wise teaching that the Holy Spirit reveals to us through the Apostle James. From this text we can understand that tomorrow does not belong to us, it belongs only to God. What belongs to us is today! Therefore, if we have to make decisions, we should make them while we are living in the time called Today!
