Have you noticed the options God gives to His children? To overcome and triumph but never to lose! That’s because the Lord Jesus, in His death, conquered our right to triumph in any situation. From the sad moment Adam gave ear to the devil by eating the forbidden fruit mankind has always been losing. The devil divided the Earth into territories and gave them to his most vicious and cunning princes who acted in an extremely vile and sordid way seeking to destroy the human race.
However, when our God sent His only begotten Son to die in our place, He put a stop to it all. Our Savior came, died for us and overcame all the infernal “authorities”, disarming them of the power they had over us: Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)
Today, therefore, our enemies – Satan and his angels – are already deprived of the authority they had over men. We can then overcome, triumph and never lose. There is, throughout the Bible, 12 verses about victory and our obligation is to always triumph:
1st – If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us. (I Samuel 17:9)
This passage is a copy of the challenge that the devil posed to mankind. Just as David arose and took away the shame looming over Israel, so did our hero – the Lord Jesus – who, like David (the shepherd of Israel that typifies our Savior), defeated the devil, and today we have authority over him and his demons. In Jesus we are more than conquerors.
2nd – Then Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war; and they besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him (II Kings 16:5). Ahaz was a wicked king of Judah. He escaped death but it was due to the ministry of a true man of God: the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 7:1-7). The Word assures that even if we are faithless, the Lord remains faithful.
Even if a Christian is not exactly what the Lord wants, he or she will overcome if only they believe in what our God says. I think it could go without saying that it is infinitely better to be what God wants us to be.
3rd – Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). No matter what might have been brought against your life there is only one way to triumph: by not allowing evil to prevail over you. The enemy suffocates us, threatens us, he does everything for us to accept our defeat. No! There is no such thing as defeat for us. Jesus’ victory over hell was credited to us. It is as if we had achieved it by ourselves. In order to triumph we just have to be steadfast in the Word, overcoming evil with good.
4th – He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: to him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God (Revelation 2:7). He who has ears… Many people do not give even the least attention to spiritual matters, therefore they will never triumph. For those who lose there will be no rewards, but only for those who win. They will have the opportunity to eat from the tree of life which is in midst of the paradise of God. Because of sin, paradise was guarded by a flaming sword so that man could not eat from its fruit and live forever in a state of sin. It is the wisdom and knowledge we need in order to live victoriously (Proverbs 3:13-18).
5th – He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death (Revelation 2:11). The first death occurred after Adam’s sin. With death man was separated from God and we have suffered the consequences until today. The second death is eternal destruction and death itself, along with hell, as well as the devil and his angels and those who do not convert will be cast into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone (Revelation 20:14). All the saved will be spared from the second death and will live eternally with God. Notice the converted are referred to as winners. Therefore, all the saved are winners.
6th – He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it (Revelation 2:17) . The winner will have the right to eat a food that is now hidden. Undoubtedly, this food will make him wise and strong enough for all eternity. He will receive a foundation without any contamination, without interference from the enemy. On that foundation he will find a new name that no one will ever know, but himself.
7th – And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations (Revelation 2:26). Besides overcoming, Christians must keep the works of the Lord until the end. It is a serious mistake to undervalue the works He did for us. Obtaining forgiveness of our sins, being healed and overcoming all problems are not just good things, they are obligations of every Christian. Jesus paid a very high price for our salvation to be complete: “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5).
8th – He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (Revelation 3:5). The Lord tells us about a person who was in His feast but was not wearing appropriate clothes for such an occasion, therefore he was taken away: So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:12-14). Winners never run the risk of being thrown out for they will be clothed by the Lord of the feast Himself. Your name will be forever in the book of life of God’s children.
9th – He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name (Revelation 3:12).
Although many people are aware of the contents of this verse, a lot of them are still fighting for secular power, when in fact they can overcome and triumph and never lose that which is of the utmost interest to all of us: the Kingdom of God.
10th – To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne (Revelation 3:21). The Bible tells us that what the mind has never thought , eyes have never seen and ears have never heard is what the Lord has prepared for those who love Him (I Corinthians 2:9). Sharing the Lord’s glory and power is a privilege of the conquerors only.
11th – And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer (Revelation 6:2). He who is firm on the Word of God must overcome and never lose.
12th – He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. (Revelation 21:7). Why wait any longer? Once you are aware of all the advantages you will have for being a conqueror it will be entirely your fault if you happen to be disqualified. See what happens to those who do not overcome: But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).
